 Fred Hardy and Walt Cormack Invitational Results:

The Fred Hardy Invitational was recently held at Fork Union. The PECHS Girls finished ninth in a field of twenty-five teams. Makayla Nelson won the long jump with a season-best jump of seventeen feet and eight inches. Kamani Watkins placed seventh in that event as well. Makayla also finished third in the triple jump and sixth in the fifty-five meters. Jamarion Crawley was second in the 300-meter run and sixth in the fifty-five meters. On January 13 at the Walt Cormack Invitational held at VMI, Sylvia Hemmer was sixth in the thirty-two hundred with a season-best time of eleven minutes and fifty-five seconds. This meet featured twenty-eight schools.

Indoor Track Results from 1/26/24:

The indoor track team traveled to Louisa County High School on Friday, January 26, for a seven-team polar bear meet. The girls, as a team, finished fifth with 39 points, and the boys finished sixth with 30 points. Several Eagles delivered impressive performances.

Sylvia Hemmer won both the 1600 (5:34.94) and 1000 (3:17.04) meter runs. Kamani Watkins secured victory in the long jump at 15’9”, claimed second place in the triple jump at 33’4”, and finished sixth in the high jump at 4’6”. Her triple jump qualifies her for the state meet in that event.

Regional Results:

In the boys' competition, Jamarion Crawley tied for first in the 55 meters with a time of 6.74. He also secured fourth place in the high jump at 5’4” and finished sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 39’6”. In the 55-meter hurdles, DeAlonzo Walker tied for first with a time of 9.34 seconds. He also took fifth place in the 55-meter dash at 7.04 seconds. Levon Morris achieved fourth place in the shot put with a toss of 38’4”.

The girls' track team was a regional runner-up at the regional track. They placed second out of thirteen teams with a score of 106 points. Aliyah Rachels is the individual champion in the high jump with a jump of four feet and ten inches. Makayla Nelson was a regional long jump champion with a leap of seventeen feet and seven inches. The boys team placed sixth overall.

PECHS is going to the State Meet!

Several Eagles have successfully qualified to participate in the upcoming indoor state meet, showcasing their prowess in various track and field events. Makayla Nelson has earned her spot in the long jump, triple jump, high jump, 55 meters, and the 4 by 200 relay. Sylvia Hemmer will be competing in the 1600-meter run and 3200-meter run. Aliyah Rachels is set to showcase her skills in the high jump, triple jump, and 55-meter hurdles. Kamani Watkins will be participating in the long jump, triple jump, and the 4 by 200 relay. Shanavia Jones and Shekeyah Williams have secured their positions in the 4 by 200 relay. Jamarion Crawley is a versatile contender in the 55-meter, 300-meter, long jump, and triple jump. The State meet is scheduled to take place at Liberty University on February 28 and 29.

State Meet Results Day One:

Makayla Nelson won the State Championship in the long jump and placed sixth in the high jump. Kamani Watkins placed eighth in the long jump, while Aliyah Rachels tied for eighth. Jamarion Crawley and Makayla made the finals of the 55-meter dash.

State Meet Results Day Two:

The girls finished in fifth place as a team with 37 points. Jamarion Crawley placed second in the 300 meters and third in the 55 meters. Sylvia Hemmer was fourth in the 1600 and 3200. She ran a personal record time of five minutes and twenty seconds in the 1600 meters. Makayla Nelson was fourth in the triple jump, and Aliyah Rachels was fifth. They both jumped personal records of 35'6 and 35'3 respectively. Makayla's long jump on Wednesday of 18 feet 7 ½ inches was a new state record in the event!
